A Story of Coco Gordon of Lyons Colorado Not Being Able to Come to OACC This Year.
Coco is a long time poet, bioregionalist, permaculturist, and past attendee of OACC. From an email to David Haenke, OACC 34 Coordinator, reprinted with her permission…
You probably heard about the flood that tried to wipe out Lyons. We have no services, wastewater, water, electric, gas, the river has gone back to is original course through town widely changing the infrastructure into 7 islands, and with no Ecological sanity they will return the river to is utilitarian made in the 70’s straighter paths again that caused this elemental rejoining of Nature’s will. & I have a curfew at dusk –
I elected to stay put with these circumstances
To know what’s happening first hand, & watch my house & the house am staying in for problems & solved a few already – glad I stayed even though am living with dusk & dawn hours, no lights, using my common sense pail & sawdust not the portapotties the others are using that stayed back, we have a skeleton of residents remaining- about 2 dozen out of over 2,000+ the stupidity of FEMA, National Guard, and wasteful armed police, sheriffs not distinguishing who has to be interrogated and arbitrary rules that have no use for the volunteering efforts of those remaining.
Most have evacuated.
Will have to have you cancel that room you had set aside for me at OACC, as I will be here trying to input into the Wastewater rebuild decisions with the task force of our wastewater system, and contribute my permaculture knowledge as we move forward again.
Sorry it didn’t work out for me to come this year.
My house is in limbo- my contractor & their subs have been kept out of Lyons so far and snow is soon approaching with dangers of pipes freezing.
I wish you a fab OACC as usual. Will teleport my spirit there to you & continue the writing am doing in these flood times of respect needed for Nature’s instincts. Contours, land health, wise design, and communication with the nature spirits, I’m here to hold up that Bioregional end.
hugs to you all at OACC & blessings to all that circle around
