Hawk Hill was the first piece of land to become part of the Ozarks Land Trust (thanks to Ella Alford) in the mid-1980s. It is on Brush Creek in the Bryant Creek Watershed, in Douglas County, Missouri. Hawk Hill is Osage land and was once briefly, in the 1800s, a Shawnee reservation. Hawk Hill residents are Susan Wiseheart, Denslow Brown, Cindy Perry, Jan VanSchuyver, and Amber Johnson. Some of the residents have lived at Hawk Hill for 36 years now. They also honor their now deceased residents Cindy Hansen, Pat Patton, Linda Smith and Lorraine Keller.
And they honor Mary Rowland, Denise Vaughn, and Terri Bussey, who once lived at Hawk Hill as members, plus all of the animals and plants, wild and domesticated, who have lived here and do still, as well as everyone who has rented spaces over the decades and all in the community who have supported Hawk Hill since the 1980s.
