Karie Crisp

Karie is a scholar/activist at the California Institute of Integral Studies where she is researching emergent bioregional governance. She spent several years researching the North American bioregional movement and is excited to attend the 45th OACC, the longest running bioregional congress. She is exploring the possibility of an 11th continental congress and welcomes discussion on the topic.

Karie works on a variety of other projects including a short documentary film called Last Stand: Saving the Elwha River’s Legacy Forests as an Executive Director. The film gave her an opportunity to support the amazing work of the Earth Law Center and to raise awareness of the importance of legacy forests for carbon sequestration, water quality, erosion control and so many other benefits to the watershed and larger Earth Community.

Last fall, Karie helped plan six events for Planet Drum Foundation’s 50th anniversary and collected and edited tributes from over 40 people who knew Peter Berg and Judy Goldhaft over many decades.

Karie also convenes the San Francisco environmental working group for California Jobs First (formerly the Community Economic Resilience Fund). It is a $450 million joint effort between the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR), the California Labor Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), and the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) to build an equitable and sustainable economy across California’s diverse regions and foster long-term economic resilience in the overall transition to a carbon-neutral economy.
